Street Painting Festival '12

Every year the city of Lake Worth has this event referred to as the Street Painting Festival where they rope off sections of downtown. Local and national artists come and use chalk and draw in a square. They are either sponsored or pay their own way. The art is always great and the vibe fits Lake Worth perfectly. And the bonus this year, I had friends who had a square.

Brief overview: Emily had a dream about a Roseate Spoonbill and between her, Rosanna, and a friend, they translated it onto the street with chalk. It was amazing, and without seeming biased, it may be one of the top squares at this years showing.

And of course you have your typical festival type food: Fried Oreos, Curly Fries, (my personal festival fave) Arepas, Beer Battered Burgers, Hotdogs, Lemonade, etc. The key is to try not to have a wandering eye otherwise you may be a glutton for punishment.

Dinner at The Pelican.

So there is this little (and I mean little) Indian restaurant in Lake Worth, FL called The Pelican. It's open everyday until noon for breakfast and then Fri it opens for dinner. This is where my love for all things lamb came from.

I always get the Lamb Karahi every Fri night that I go. They don't always trim the lamb fat so if fat and some grease bother you, I would just stick to chicken here. I get the Karahi extra spicy, although for non spicy food people I would again stick to something else or order it "less spicy". My standing order: extra spicy Karahi, extra green chutney (which Tara makes herself), extra Naan, rice (be careful and look out for the Cardamom pieces) and extra napkins. I like to rip off a piece of Naan, put a portion of lamb on, throw on some rice and put more spice on by spooning on some chutney...and enjoy! They tend to give you some dessert that cools you down, although I'm not a huge dessert fan nor do I enjoy cooling down, I like the burn. But the dessert is yummy too.

The Pelican isn't the cheapest food option, particularly in Lake Worth, but the place is tiny and Tara is always great. And sometimes you may find yourself waiting for service so that may be an issue at times. But if you love Indian food and are in Lake Worth on a Friday for dinner, stop in. No reservations though.

Lunchtime @ Publix.

Had the Smoked Beef Brisket sandwich today. It came on toasted Potato Bread and usually I don't like the taste of Potato Bread but I am trying to have it the original way prior to tinkering with my order. It was good, I prefer to have some kind of sauce on the brisket and it did not come with any. Have definitely had better brisket, but considering it came from Publix Greenwise, it is still a good solid choice.

Dinner with my Date and Stef @ The Living Room.

I usually stick to a few menu items at some restaurants and stick to the belief of-"If it's not broken, don't fix it" but at The Living Room, I have never had the same meal twice.

Stef and AJ had never been so we had the Pear and Havarti Flatbread and the Duck Drumetted for apps. Last night, for dinner, I had the meatloaf with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Although it was good, I felt that the meatloaf was overcooked and almost like a well burger...which for me is not a pleasant experience. AJ had the crab cake which was delicious and very moist. And shocker for some places, you could see and taste crab. Stef had the shepherds pie which is always great. They dont put the veggies in the pie, they are on the side...which is their rightful spot when it comes to shepherds pie. Im not a dessert kind of girl, but we had the peanut butter pie which was like biting into a Reese Peanut Butter Cup...yum. Don't eat it by yourself-sharing is caring friends.

I would recommend this place off of Gateway and Congress in Boynton Beach, FL. Lisa, the owner, is always friendly and will accomodate most dessert requests if given ahead of time.

Dinner at Couco Pazzo with my Date and her mom.

I always get the Spaghetti and Meatballs. They do an amazing blend of meats and cook them so they are semi-firm on the outside and moist on the inside. They have great sauce and the spaghetti is great.

If you're in Lake Worth it's worth checking out: Couco Pazzo.

Lunchtime @ Publix.

Special of the day: Fish Sandwich (minus the roll). Great seasoning, it was blackened, and the fish was moist. Next time I would get it minus the cheese, I thought it was unnecessary. Great value-$6.49 plus 1 side.

Big Sit Event @ Green Cay Nature Center.

Helped volunteer for the Big Sit. Sectioned off a portion of the back area and birded from there. Got 50 birds and 2 audio ID's. Success!

Super bowl '12 festivities.

Good times with Mo Mo, Brunna, and new friends. Mo Mo made her "Crack Dip" and we had a few Car Bombs...poor Pats lost to the Giants.
